Alaska State Flag

| Years after its purchase from Russia, Alaska under the United States administration selected a flag on May 2, 1927. The blue field is inspired by the Alaskan lakes and sea. The gold stars were the idea of a thirteen-year-old student, Benny Benson, who won the contest to create a state flag and was rewarded $1000 by the grateful Territorial Legislature to further his education. |
